TBS 2-70 2021 Class Reunion

Trolley Tour of Historic Fredericksburg

Monday morning the attendees toured historic Fredericksburg in trolley buses. Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 by Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia. Assuming the name, John O. Meusebach, in Texas, he brokered the 1847 Treaty between the Penateka Comanche and the German Immigration Company with Penateka Comanche Chief Ketemoczy. It is one of the very few treaties with Native American tribes that was never broken by either side. The tour covered a number of historic sites, including historic churches, the only prison for people arrested in west Texas, and a set of bronze statues commemorating the 1847 Treaty.
